Courtiers’ Funds won Best Fund Group Award for Mixed Assets – Aggressive GBP last week in the Citywire UK Portfolio Manager & Group Awards 2025. We caught up with James Timpson, Head of Asset Management and Fund Manager, for his acceptance speech:
“It’s always great to get recognition for our funds, and this Citywire award is especially nice as it recognises risk-adjusted returns over seven years, which is a fairly lengthy timeframe. We have always invested our clients’ money for the long run with the aim of generating strong returns for their given level of risk, so we’re delighted to be recognised for doing just that!”
Up against reputable competition including Brompton Asset Management, Columbia Threadneedle Investments, Guiness Asset Management and Orbis, we’re absolutely thrilled to be announced the winner.
To achieve the award, each fund group had to go through the Citywire Group Ratings methodology, which puts them against the best talent in an investment sector. As the winner, Courtiers is seen as the top fund group available in the category it won to investors across the United Kingdom.
The key components for Citywire’s methodology were as follows:
- Manager experience: Every portfolio manager that has managed money for three years or more counts towards the Citywire Fund Group Rating in every sector they are eligible for.
- The longer the better: The analysis period covers seven years. Within this time frame, the average of the manager’s rolling three years risk-adjusted performance in the sector is calculated. This is weighted based on the period of activity during the time frame. The more information available about the managers the better, meaning consistency of outperformance and experience are rewarded.
- Outperformance: Managers must add value above their benchmark over this time period. How much they outperform gives them a manager score.
- Scoring the group: All managers in the fund group active in that sector, who fulfil the criteria, have their scores averaged to produce a group score.
Knowing this methodology, a huge congratulations to James Timpson is in order, as Manager of Courtiers funds.
